Commentary on Classmate

I decided to read Alfredo's blog on the Civil war going on in El Salvador and the reason why many are fleeing the country. I completely agree and understand the reasons that immigration is a big issue in the US. It is because children should be given a better life than the traumatizing everyday life going on in Central America. In Mexico, the war against drug cartels is just as dangerous. People in major states with this issue are terrified of their own corrupt government that works closely with the the cartels. It is very sad to see the life that many have to live because their is no other choice. Many gangs in central america end up using children in their war. Training them early to kill so that they are useful in the war. Poverty is another reason that Central Americans are fleeing. Living conditions are very bad and are not living conditions for innocent children. As a Mexican citizen, I am trying to make a living in the states different than the violence and traumatizing lifestyle in my home town.

Immigration Reform Must Happen

An immigration reform must happen according to an opinion post on the Daily Texan. We see many arguments that the immigration system is broken and it is separating many families, the processes of becoming a citizen, and the reason why a reform is necessary.
The immigration system is broken and over due for a “polishing” after this country was founded by immigrants. The current system is separating innocent children from their parents because they wanted a better future for the kids. Crime is increasing in the south due to the trafficking of drugs, a world children should not witness. Anyone would do whatever it takes so that the children get a better life. After many years of being in the states, the children practically grow up learning the values and traditions of being a U.S citizen. They do their best in school so that the risks their parents had to take were not a waste, only to find out that they are not allowed to continue onto higher education when they know more about the US than their birth land. The process for becoming a citizen is very difficult and costly. Many people who have a very strong argument that Immigrants take jobs and take advantage of benefits do not understand what it is that they do. They will do anything for their families. They are hard workers who do the jobs other do not want to do. An example is construction. Nobody wants to be out in the hot sun or the cold winters for 12 hours each day just to put food on the table. A reform will allow them to stop having to worry about not being able to come home because there was a deportation raid at work, where they loose their families and the many years of hard work just to be thrown away.

An immigration reform is a must to keep the economy going and to become a better country for the future generations.

Ted Cruz endorsing Trump

In an Opinion Column from the Daily Texan, senior columnist, Alyssa Fernandez writes about the Senator Ted Cruz and his support for the republican candidate, Donald Trump, where Fernandez talks about how Senator Cruz is voting for Trump but does not know why. After a brief history of Rafael Edward Cruz, who decided to go by Ted Cruz, Fernandez goes on to explain Cruz’s fall of popularity in politics. One of Ted’s former friends, Glenn Beck, has apologized for supporting him in his race. Cruz’s “traits” to “speak well and [his] tendency to conform” makes it easier to talk about different subjects without having to come back to his downfall in popularity in politics. In the end, Ted Cruz is endorsing Trump accompanied by boos from supporters leaving them with the unanswered question of why is he endorsing Trump.
This column stood out to me because it seems that politicians should know why they are endorsing a candidate for the presidency. By simply using other topics to move away from the main question, just shows how much Ted Cruz is the unpopular senator.
Fernandez’s column was well written. It is a very strong opinion to talk about because many are confused to why people, including important politicians, are voting for Trump. One thing that worked very well was the brief history of Ted Cruz growing up and becoming the popular kid and being on top until his position in the race for the white house.
Overall, a very well written column where some might agree and some disagree, but shows a clear understanding of all kinds of people looking into Cruz’s questionable endorsement in the race for presidency.

Misfire at Tarleton State

Two weeks after Texas legislature allowed guns in public universities, a concealed handgun license holder misfired the weapon in a dormitory at Tarleton State. There were no injuries and the gun holder reported the firing to school authorities.
This is an example of why many people are against this law. Many people don’t feel safe knowing that the person next to them may or may not have a gun. Gun holders would argue that it is for their own safety and protection. Luckily in this misfire, there were no injuries.
This article will give you a good example of why students are against the law. It shows that gun holders in public campuses should be responsible when having the guns.
